Two bodies were discovered in the landing gear compartment of a JetBlue aircraft at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, authorities confirmed.
The bodies were found in the wheel well area during a routine post-flight maintenance check on Monday night.
The aircraft had arrived in Fort Lauderdale from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York just after 11 p.m., according to JetBlue’s statement to The Associated Press.
The airline said that the identities of the individuals and the circumstances surrounding their access to the aircraft are still under investigation. "This is a heartbreaking situation, and we are committed to working closely with authorities to understand how this occurred," JetBlue stated.

Paramedics pronounced both individuals dead at the scene, and the Broward County Sheriff's Office confirmed the discovery on Tuesday. The sheriff's homicide and crime scene units are investigating the incident.
At this time, the names of the deceased have not been released. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) clarified in a statement that there was "no involvement of the flight crew or operation of the airplane." Consequently, the NTSB is not conducting an investigation.
This marks the second such incident in recent weeks. In late December, a body was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines aircraft after it landed in Maui from Chicago. In addition to these wheel well incidents, the airline industry has faced other challenges with unticketed passengers.
In November, a Russian national managed to board a Paris-bound Delta Air Lines flight in New York without a ticket and was arrested upon arrival in France after bypassing security. Then, on Christmas Eve, an unauthorized passenger was discovered aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Seattle to Honolulu just as the plane was preparing to depart.
