Kabul Attack: 12 US Service Men and 66 Afghans Dead

Two suicide bombers and gunmen attacked the people rushing to the Kabul Airport to leave Afghan before its borders are closed. The attacks occurred at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul and another at the nearby Baron Hotel.

Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, the head of Central Command, confirmed the attack at a Pentagon news conference on Thursday.

The 12 U.S. Service Men who died in this attack are 11 U.S. Marines and one Navy corpsman. "We can confirm that several U.S. service members were killed in today's complex attack at Kabul airport," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said in a statement.

A U.S. official said that "The attack was conducted by the Islamic State group." However, the spokesperson of the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, has denied that the Islamic group is not the reason for the blast and said that the region in which the attack happened is under U.S. control.

"The Islamic Emirate strongly condemns the bombing of civilians at Kabul airport, which took place in an area where U.S. forces are responsible for security," Mujahid tweeted.

"Afghans will be allowed to leave via commercial flights once after the deadline next week," the Taliban added.
