Officer-involved with Capitol Riot dies of suicide

Gunther Hashida, an officer of D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department, was found deceased on Thursday at his home. Hashida became the third officer to die of suicide involving the Capitol Riot.

News of Hashida’s death comes days after other officers who responded to the riot testified before Congress about the horrors of that day, including moments they feared for their lives and endured racial slurs.

Harry Dunn, the Capitol Police officer, who is black, showed his whimper about the experiences he and has his fellow officers faced.

However, Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed and stated that Hashida did respond to the Capitol on Jan 6th, but that has nothing to do with the suicide.

"We are grieving as a Department as our thoughts and prayers are with Officer Hashida’s family and friends," the police department said of Hashida, who joined the MPD in 2003.
